Full Description:
Anesthesia Specialists of Bethlehem (ASB) is a 63 physician, 105 CRNA private practice group looking to hire a full time, partnership track physician due to rapid growth within our network. This position is available to newly graduating residents and fellows. We are looking for generalists with strong regional skills to meet our needs for increasing coverage and services. Graduates with fellowships will receive strong consideration.

Our hospital network has grown quickly over the past 10 years, with 3 new campuses built in the last 3 years. ASB covers ten inpatient campuses and three ambulatory surgery centers. Our primary inpatient facility, St. Luke's University Hospital at Bethlehem Campus is a Level One Trauma Center. The St. Luke’s Anderson campus, a Level Two Trauma Center, houses the newly built Mother and Baby Pavilion opened in January 2020 and performs 3500 deliveries a year. We have a dedicated team of fellowship trained CT anesthesiologists who provide cardiac care. We take care of "bread and butter" pediatric cases and have a fellowship trained pediatric team that is in charge of more challenging cases. Our critical care team of intensivists provides ICU care at the majority of our sites. In addition, we perform anesthesia for orthopedics, thoracic, neurosurgery, IR, urology, GYN, ENT, vascular, and general surgery.

ASB is thoroughly committed to the Surgical Home concept. We have an acute pain service, we run the pre-op program including a surgical optimization clinic, and are well entrenched in ERAS protocols for nearly all of our specialties. Our network emphasizes physician leadership and our Chair of Anesthesia is now the Senior Vice President to whom all other medical departments report, including surgery. One of our docs is VPMA at one of our hospital campuses and we have leadership positions in critical care, blood banking, and OB. One of our docs heads a team of post-doc fellows for clinical research.

We have in house call (first call) and backup call (second call). In house call is once every 14 days. During the week, this call starts at 3-4 pm and ends at 7 am the next day. On the weekends, in house call is a 24 hr call, from 7 am- 7 am. For in house call, we have 2 to 3 24-hour CRNAs on call with you. Backup call (second call) is also once every 14 days. Backup call begins during a regular workday and you will stay until most of the OR cases are done. Backup call allows you then to go home with a small chance of being called back to help with emergencies. You are off on the postcall day after both in house call and backup call.

We also have voluntary call for our partners, which provides coverage for some of our smaller campuses. Monetary compensation is provided for this call: around $900 for a weekday and $1500 for a weekend day. This call is usually 2-3 times a month and partners can earn an extra $30,000/year. One CRNA is on call with you at these facilities.

Our starting salary is $400,000 for the first year with an increase to $425,000 the second year. Partnership is voted on at 18 months and granted at the completion of two years. Partners’ compensation averages over $450,000 per year with opportunities to earn more from the various voluntary calls, see above. A partner is required to buy one share of stock in the practice, the same as other partners, costing $2,500 (buy-in). The first two years as an employee anesthesiologist you are guaranteed seven weeks of vacation. As a partner, you are granted eight weeks of vacation. We offer a full range of benefits including Blue Cross health insurance with three different options, including an HSA. We offer a $40,000 sign on bonus as well as $10,000 relocation payment. $3,000 is provided towards CME expenses yearly. All licensing and board fees are compensated separate and in addition to CME expenses. We also provide a $500/month for car expenses for those who travel between our multiple, smaller campuses and $80/month is provided for cellphone expenses.
